  • Experience Uruguay as a Uruguayan

Live Uruguay like a local; be received into the heart of our family and savour the joys of locally-sourced food

  • Five generations in the same place

The same families work together each year, generation after generation

Eco Certifications

Just as we admire each of our hosts for their singularity, we appreciate that their sustainability journeys are also unique. Because of this, we do not require our hosts to have an eco certification or two under their belt, we simply guide them on improving their sustainable business practices one imperfect – but positive – step at a time. If a host has eco certifications they will be shown below, if not, then know we are working towards this together.

NGOs & Local Impact Projects Supported

Each of our hosts strive to have a positive impact on their local communities. Some of our hosts already have established connections with local partners to enrich the lives and wellbeing of their communities, others are in the process of creating these long term relationships. If a host has local NGO connections they will be shown below, if not, then know we are working towards this together.

What our hosts say..

Transparency is essential if we are all going to grow and improve together and this is why we have dedicated this section to sharing what we love about each place and its hosts. We work with each of our hosts to improve their guest experiences, sustainability practices and local impact, this is where you can learn more about that along with what still needs to be improved, the measures being taken to ensure our hosts continue to move forward and every now and then we’ll come back to update you on their progress.

We are a family, and through Los Nadies Bodega Alamcén, we have built a way of life. The entire process; from planting to tasting are a means of strengthening and sharing our values. Our way of life, a rhythm set by nature and the shared connection between people, enlivens us, while simultaneously helping us to grow.

Cuisine and wine go hand in hand in gastronomy. This is why we are passionate about being in contact with chefs, learning from them, and achieving perfect synergy. We organise themed dinners so you can enjoy a pairing experience designed just for you.

WE ARE YOUR HOSTS –
Manuel, Santiago and Felipe Filgueira & Gabriela Garmendia

The name Los Nadies comes from the fact that we are nobodies. At our beginning we enjoyed the anonymity of no one knowing the owners, no one knowing the Tannat variety and no one knowing Uruguay as a wine-producing country. The possibilities that arise from this anonymity is liberating.

The soul of Los Nadies is a result of affection and many hands pulling together, through trials and tribulations, to make this shared dream come to fruition. Our goal is a continuous return to authenticity, trust, simplicity in our way of life and respect for the land and those around us.

Our menu is influenced by Italian and Spanish cuisine and is renewed seasonally based on a study of the products available on the market. We use high quality, local and carefully selected natural ingredients, these are the basis of our dishes, where we seek to highlight the purity and simplicity of each ingredient, without ornamentation.

In addition to the set menu, every day we offer a soup, a main course and a dessert of the day. Our wine list – mostly from Uruguayan wineries – is made up of wines specially selected by Lucía, designed to accompany the different dishes served in the best possible way.

A visit to the winery and the Almazara (oil press) alongside a tour of the two architectural icons of Finca José Ignacio: the winery – a construction that accompanies the process of transforming the grape into wine through gravity – and the mill – where our extra virgin oils O’33 are made – followed by a tasting session provides the perfect insight into our quality-over-quantity process.

Once your appetite is thoroughly whetted, you are invited to the terrace to taste a variety of ocean wines and extra virgin oils accompanied by homemade breads and a table of cheeses, Serrano ham, nuts and olives all while enjoying views over the landscape that nourished them.

The architectural design and advanced technology of the olive mill helps to maintain a stable room temperature; our tank room and all the facilities were built using heat-insulating techniques and materials which reduce the estate’s energy use and increase sustainability.

Utilising gravity within the winery’s architectural design enables a more gentle and sustainable processing of the grapes due to the reduced need for pumps while large glass walls allow for natural lighting to penetrate the space, limiting the need for electric lights.

Each olive tree is carefully identified and monitored to ensure complete traceability of our production. This, combined with our commitment to the care of our earth, creates the ideal conditions required to preserve each fruit’s own characteristics, so that it can express a strong and distinctive sense of origin.

WE ARE YOUR HOSTS –
MARCELO AND NATALIA

Our story began in 2012 when we took a leap of faith and purchased 52 hectares of coastal land to transform into a family winery and olive grove. Our vision for Bodega Oceánica José Ignacio was to build a modern but beautiful winery and olive mill to showcase our love for design, art and architecture while also staying true to the quality of wine and oils our enriched land and experienced team can produce.

Our first vineyards were of Pinot Noir, Merlot and Chardonnay to which we added Albariño and Tannat a few years later and we love nothing more than to share our passion and hard work with our guests.

Las Liebres is at 40 meters above sea level, the highest point of the district of Colonia, and of close proximity to the historic district, the port, the promenade and Route 21. A habitable house of the four seasons; the entire second floor designed to offer a unique lodging experience.

Design that combines classic and contemporary and the latest technology in performance.
Four rooms of refined style: Skyla, Juanita, Sebastián & Agustina. Private library room and terrace for exclusive use.

The restaurant is an integral proclamation in favour of the senses, the ideal place to free the senses and dream.

The flavours; unprecedented, complex, summon the light and the light summons the music, which gives a tenuous membrane to the conversations. The wines offer their wisdom. The restaurant is to the house as a wide avenue is to a city. From the terrace, the city of Buenos Aires is clearly silhouetted.

We work with each of our hosts to improve their guest experiences, sustainability practices and local impact, this is where you can learn more about that along with what still needs to be improved, the measures being taken to ensure our hosts continue to move forward and every now and then we’ll come back to update you on their progress.

Lars von der Wettern, Founder & Host @ Singular Places
October 2021

When we asked Cate and Dario – Hosts of Alma Histórica – why they didn’t make their sustainability efforts more visible on their website, they simply replied; “Why would you open a non-sustainable business anyway?”.

What a lovely way to highlight the need to think differently as entrepreneurs. Even during construction they thought about reusage & upcycling. In order to work authentically they also use surrounding independent restaurants for their guests to enhance their experience and support the community. A true sample of a Singular Place and community thinking!

The hotel, located in one of the most romantic corners of Montevideo – Plaza Zabala – is a walkable distance from many attractions: more than 10 museums, 3 important Plazas, 2 main theatres, bookstores, historical landmarks, restaurants and cafes. It is also very practical to reach Buenos Aires, Argentina through the port, 5 blocks away. Alma Historica perfectly balances modernity and tradition and so does its surroundings.

What makes us most proud is our breakfast and our concierge service. We offer homemade delicious breakfast with excellent reviews from our guests! They also love our Honesty Bar in our welcoming and comfortable library and our top terrace with its amazing sunsets.

We are always here for you: you’re welcome to sit down at our reception desk or connect with us via Whatsapp throughout your stay.

WE ARE YOUR HOSTS –
CATE AND DARIO

Cate and Dario are the silent and transparent souls of the hotel. They are not public figures but they love meeting guests to share their favourite recommendations. They are foreigners so they had to discover the city and the country as tourists first, giving them a unique insight into exploring as guests and appreciating the finer details of Uruguayan life.

Alma Historica hotel is their first hospitality project so they insisted in creating a “home away from home” more than a hotel. They are happy to come out from their offices and meet you if you wish to hear their story!
