San Canzian is a 5* collection of rustic buildings served by a premium gastronomic restaurant, one of the finest bars in Croatia and an outdoor pool with Finnish sauna. All placed in the very heart of Istria – a beautiful region of Croatia. Surrounded by olive groves, vineyards, gardens of local herbs and plants, it is the perfect place to experience the authentic Istrian vibe through traditional architecture with modern influenced design, a unique heritage concept, custom arts and a highly personalised service.

To be able to see the entire process, from beginning to end, how San Canzian sources local ingredients for their Luciano restaurant – a restaurant named after their favourite local supplier – from their surrounding community is a delight. The close connection between them and the local farmers, fishermen, cheesemakers, cattle farmers and butchers who – alongside their own garden – supply the kitchen with quality ingredients is palpable when the final result is served to guests.
Their interior design and styling is rustic, raw and elegant and yet still retains a cosy sense of warmth and comfort. A food and design lovers’ paradise!
We love their sustainability and community efforts and are keen to now see a growing connection to a local NGO and also to see environmental information supplied to their guests – particularly on the benefits of sourcing hyper-local ingredients and the importance of supporting a regenerative economy as they do these so well and it might inspire visitors in their own behaviour.

OUR STORY
Almayer Art & Heritage Hotel is a small, family owned, boutique hotel situated in a carefully newly-renovated 19th-century building in the heart of the ancient historic center of Zadar in Croatia.
The hotel features nine exclusive double rooms, a bar and a leafy secret garden in the main building, plus four stylish double rooms in a nearby annex.

Almayer Art & Heritage Hotel is located in the heart of Zadar, adjacent to the city landmarks, sea, coastal boardwalk and famous architectural installations – Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun, surrounded by lush green park and protected cultural monuments that are symbols of this 3000 years old city.
Offering all the modern amenities, as expected in a contemporary hotel, Almayer is a unique spot where guests are treated as friends of the family. Our offer includes luxurious and vigorous à la minute breakfast, a wide selection of drinks, cocktails and carefully selected wines.
Travelling and discovering the world, side by side, everything led us towards Almayer. Recognizing the potential of a forgotten house and a yard in the heart of this beautiful Dalmatian city, it took us years of planning and restoration until we finally opened the doors to our guests.
The space quickly filled up with Irina’s love of the unusual and special minimalism of seemingly arithmetic details. Vjekoslav’s passion for heritage, nature and the sea, flooded the space with the stories and energy of the Mediterranean. Together, with great love, we’ve created a shelter for curious travelers and experienced connoisseurs.
