FOR OUR HOSTS
Our commitment to you
Our commitment to you
We provide a thriving community of Hosts, ambassadors and partners, and all their accumulated wisdom, at the very fingertips of each individual Host who joins our network. Connecting small, independent entrepreneurs, ensuring they directly benefit from the support of a wider community without diluting their own unique flavour. Through our network we ensure that there is no need for each Host to reinvent the wheel, if you’re trying to achieve a certain eco or community goal, we can guarantee there are many within your new community who have done it before you and can share best practices and expertise as well as what not to do! Not only will this save you time and resources, but it also provides you with the ease of mind that you’re no longer alone in all the business decisions you make, big or small. With such great responsibilities weighing on your shoulders, it’s a great relief to share this with fellow Hosts that you can trust, that are in the trenches with you and can provide invaluable insights to get you where you want to go.
We see ourselves as playing just a small role within a huge network of global like-minded people. We team up with those whose values we share because we are not alone in what we are trying to achieve and we very much need those people. We believe in, and value, partnerships, we live and breathe this philosophy and foster partnerships wherever we can because we understand that no matter what, we are stronger together.
Beautifully illustrating our values is a recently shared story by Amitabh Bachchan;
“Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fish hooks or clay pots or grinding stones. But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal. A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts.”
Our strength and our values as a community extend way back, proving that when we join up together and care for one another as a community it leads to our survival.
We are stronger together.
But it’s important to remind ourselves that we are not perfect, we’re human and what we aim for is a way of life which is why we accept imperfection while still aiming for a positive path forward. Fostering genuine community commitment, sustainability and moving the needle towards transparent, regenerative business practices is our bottom line.
We encourage each of our Hosts to directly impact their local communities in a positive way. Whether that be through supporting local NGOs, planting trees in the surrounding area, establishing and maintaining relationships with local suppliers and choosing them over foreign imports – you will find this information openly on display for each place.
It’s very important to us to avoid greenwashing; you might notice that we don’t ask for any particular eco certifications from our Hosts, there are various reasons for this:
Many eco certifications are valued and rightly so, we support many of the trusted certifiers and they generously allow us to share their standards within our network, but they are not required to join us. We look beyond certificates and at true intentions, integrity and honest values. We have had the privilege to meet countless Hosts who strive each day towards being responsible Hosts and upholding sustainable business practices. If you’re showing up and genuinely doing the work towards becoming a highly sustainable business, then we want you. Bottom line.
An eco certification for us is not the ultimate goal, but can be a helpful step on the road for better business practices. And for those who hold one, we proudly share that with our audience.
It is our great joy to empower green-minded tourism enterprises to begin the essential journey towards sustainable business practices through true guidance, tech support and an extensive network of green partners.
