Nestled in the serene hills of the Byron Bay Hinterland, Blackbird Byron is a secluded, adults-only retreat that transports guests to a world where time slows down and the worries of everyday life melt away.
The architectural concept comprises of an open plan communal space and three guest pavilions. The Blackbird ethos reflects an out-of-the-box approach: you’re welcomed like a friend, dinners are a communal experience, and the interior aesthetic is a cohesive blend of Palm Springs and Morocco, British graffiti culture whilst still paying homage to the Australian landscape.
Each pavilion offers an intimate and immersive experience with nature, positioned to take full advantage of the sunrise views over the Pacific Ocean, and a handsome fit-out of Moroccan tiled bathrooms with copper fittings, king beds with Egyptian cotton linen on burnished concrete floors, reclaimed timber joinery, and warm birch ply paneled walls.
With private chefs, a well-stocked bar and guest fridge, in-room massage and facial therapy, an infrared sauna and a 10 metre magnesium infinity pool on site, Blackbird is a destination in itself, but its worth exploring the imposing Nightcap National Park, one of Australia’s largest subtropical rainforests, that surrounds the property. With acres of lush greenery, spectacular views eastwards to Cape Byron and the Pacific Ocean, or Mount Chincogan in the distance — believed to be an Indigenous fertility totem — there is something special about this area. In any case, Blackbird invites you to get up and close with the landscape and the wildlife — including the local population of rare and indigenous yellow-tailed black cockatoos who share the property.
